Why visit
About Awudua Community Centre
Awudua Community Centre is a community hall and auditorium in Awudua, a town near Tarkwa in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of Ghana's Western Region. It is a working civic building rather than a conventional visitor attraction, and it is best understood as a gathering place for the town and its surrounding communities.
The centre was commissioned in July 2021 by the Municipal Chief Executive, Dr. Isaac Dasmani, together with management of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, which built it as part of its community infrastructure projects. The building was named after Nana Kobina Angu II, chief of the Apinto Divisional Stool.
Its role is practical and communal. The hall hosts public gatherings, durbar ceremonies and health outreach events for the people of Awudua. In July 2026, the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation, in partnership with Unilever Ghana and Diagnostic Centre Limited, held its Q3 Health Engagement Access Link (HEAL) free medical outreach here on Saturday 25 July, timed to mark World Hepatitis Day. That event offered screenings for blood glucose, blood pressure, malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid, HIV, eye, ear, nose and throat, and dental conditions, along with NHIS registration, to residents of Awudua and neighbouring communities.
For a visitor, the centre is worth knowing about chiefly as a way of reading how the town works: mining-company community investment, local chieftaincy and public health outreach all converge in one building. It is also listed among attractions in the Prestea Huni-Valley District in travel listings, which is how many travellers first encounter it.
Practical details are limited. No opening hours, entry fees, guided-tour arrangements or booking contacts are established in the available sources, and access is likely to depend on whether an event is taking place. Visitors should treat the building as an active community facility and plan around confirmed local events rather than assuming regular public visiting times.
